Approach

My approach to therapy is one that is highly integrative; I blend the psychological fundamentals that I was trained in as a Clinical Psychologist, with the holistic healing modalities that I have been exposed to throughout years of traveling abroad and in my personal studies. As varied as each person is that I work with, my therapist toolkit is just as varied to match and support.

The therapeutic modalities that I am the most influenced by include the following:

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems views each individual as being made up of a variety of different parts. The core aspect of someone’s identity (known as the Self) is the source of grounding, wisdom, and perspective that we use to successfully navigate the world. We also have other parts that are more fragmented and wounded, whose main purpose is to keep us safe, but is usually achieved in ways that may no longer serve our best interests. The goal of IFS is to heal those wounded parts and create a cohesive relationship between them and the Self, so that your internal system can achieve harmony.

Somatic Psychotherapy

Somatic psychotherapy aims to create a stronger, more intentional relationship between the mind and the body. In our current version of the world, we often see our bodies as serving our mind or even as a burden altogether. We can be disconnected from our bodies at best, and dissociated or in disdain at worst. However, our bodies provide us with a rich landscape of information about our emotions, limitations, and capabilities, all vital when living life to its fullest. Through the use of somatic psychotherapy techniques, the relationship to the body can be healed, nourished, and seen as the ally that it is.

Spiritual Psychology

French philosopher, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin famously said, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Spiritual psychology offers the sense that all human or lived experiences offer the opportunity for spiritual expression and insight. Being born and raised in the Bay Area and my travels abroad have heavily influenced my spiritual perspective on life and living and this perspective helps to create a depth of understanding that transcends circumstance and can lighten the load of emotional suffering.
